Blacklisted by Gülnar Babayeva
Artist Musingly
One of my earliest portraits from 2012, when I discovered sculpting as an artistic expression towards which I had natural inclination and a definite interest.
This piece was created as a response to a prompt ‘blacklisted’. At that time, the idea behind this bust was a reference to historical & political perspectives; eventually in 2020 I became aware of a new point of view that I could apply to this concept of being ‘blacklisted’ in our contemporary times, which is termed as “cancel culture”. We yet to understand the difference between holding someone accountable for their harmful deeds vs ostracizing individuals for their views on reality. That fine moral line is yet to be understood or mastered by the human collective.
